Patson Dakaâ??s risky celebration sparks scare after dramatic AFCON equaliser for Zambia

Zambia forward Patson Daka endured a frightening moment after scoring a dramatic stoppage-time equalizer against Mali at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), landing awkwardly on his neck while attempting a backflip celebration.

Daka had just powered home a header deep into added time to secure a vital 1-1 draw for the Chipolopolo when he attempted an acrobatic celebration that went wrong. The Leicester City striker appeared to lose his balance mid-air and came down heavily on his neck, immediately remaining on the ground as medical staff rushed to his aid.

The incident briefly silenced the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, with concern visible among teammates and opponents alike. After a few tense moments, Daka was able to get back on his feet, much to the relief of the Zambian bench and supporters, before continuing his celebration.

The goal proved crucial, denying Mali victory in a match they had largely controlled. While Zambia will welcome the valuable point, the post-goal scare overshadowed celebrations momentarily, serving as a reminder of the risks associated with such celebrations.
