President Mahama allocates GH¢40 million to boost film and creative sectors

President John Mahama has announced a major financial boost for Ghana’s creative industry. The government has allocated a total of GH¢40 million to support the film sector and other creative arts.

Delivering the State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Friday, February 27, the President highlighted Ghana’s growing status as a top tourism destination, crediting the country’s rich cultural heritage for its global appeal.

“Ghana has become a favorite tourism destination because of our history, culture, our art, music, fashion and our food,” he stated.

As part of efforts to strengthen and promote the creative economy, President Mahama revealed that government has set aside GH¢20 million specifically for the movie industry.

The funding is expected to support key players across the movie sector, including Kumawood and Ghallywood, and enhance film production, distribution, and overall industry growth.

In addition to the film allocation, another GH¢20 million has been earmarked for other creative sectors. The President expressed confidence that the combined investment would greatly beef-up Ghana’s creative landscape and create new opportunities for practitioners.

“I believe this injection of money will bolster our creative sectors,” he noted.

President Mahama further assured stakeholders in the creative industry and the Ministry of Tourism of his personal commitment to developing the sector.

“I wish to assure the creative industry and the Ministry of Tourism that I will be your personal ambassador for the promotion of tourism and the creative sector,” he affirmed.
