Senior Staff of Universities call off Indefinite Strike

The Senior Staff Association of Ghana, the Technical University Administrators Association and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association, has together, suspended.

This comes after the Government acting quickly to adress the concerns of the SSA-UoG.

In a statement issued by the Association on May 22, 2025, it said that the Ministry of Finance has released a letter.

In this letter, he authorized the team to implement the agreement they negotiated on November 1, 2024.

Also, The National Chairman spoke on behalf of sister unions, (TUAAG and FUSSAG) and expressed his pleasure.

He informed the public and appreciated the Government’s positive response to their demands, which followed their collective action and strong advocacy.

According to the SSA-UoG, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has also authorized universities to immediately effect payment.

The management expects every member of the Senior Staff Association of Ghana to resume work on Friday, May 23, 2025.

The association thanked GTECnDirector General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai and the Minister of Education for their great efforts in addressing their concerns.

Senior Staff Association, (SSA-UoG), in collaboration with the Technical University Administrators Association of Ghana (TUAAG) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) declared an indefinite nationwide strike on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

They initiated the industrial action to press home their demand for the government to roll out the details of an agreement they reached six months ago.

However, GTEC responded in a statement on May 22 expressing disappointment and regret over the decision by SSA-UoG.

GTEC stated that, prior to the declaration of the strike, it took many steps to address the concerns of the Senior Staff of universities.

The Commission says it is therefore surprising that the decision of Senior Staff Associations of the Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG).

The commission was surprised that the Senior Staff Associations of the Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) decided to embark on a strike, especially since government officials had held various meetings with them and had made commitments to resolve the matter.
