NASA Warns Potential Blackout Across Earth

NASA Warns Potential Blackout Across Earth

The most active part of the sun is turning to face Earth, bringing amazing auroras and occasional blackouts.

Astronomers have issued warnings of solar storms and other severe space weather in the coming days and weeks.

This will happen as an active part of the Sun spins into sight. It is expected to cause auroras and possibly, blackouts on Earth.

Also, Nasa’s Solar Dynamics Observatory recently capturing the most sever and powerful eruption of 2025 from a recently occurred sunspot region.

It has been classed as an X2.7 flare, the highest possible category for a solar flare. This has caused radio blackouts across parts of the Middle East.

Nasa warns: High Frequency Radio Signals Could Continue Being Affected

High frequency radio signals were broken for about 10 minutes, according to space weather forecasters at the Natuional Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in the U.S

Nasa noted that the flares and solar eruptions which are ongoing from this region could continue affecting radio communications.

Moreover, electric power grids, navigation signals will also be affected it could and present risks to spacecrafts and astronauts.

Also, the Sun is at its peak of 11-year activity cycle currently. It is known a solar maximum period.

This is because of the flipping of the star’s magnetic poles, which causes it to switch to an active and stormy state.

The disruptions coming from the solar flares can also come with auroras from coronal mass ejections. (CMEs).

When charged, particles from the Sun pass through the Earth’s atmosphere and create colourful displays.

The Sun’s most active region currently is rotating to face Earth, leading to forcasts of more significant space weather.

Met Office stated in its latest space weather forecast that there are currently up to five sunspot regions on the facing side of the sun.

This side has a new and apparently magnetically uni polar region rotating into view over rhe southeastern solar horizon.

However, other observers noted that the sunspot AR4087 could lead to supercharged auroras as it lines up with Earth.

“This is getting intense,” space photographer Vincent Ledvina wrote in a social media post. “Especially as this active region turns closer into view.”
