Steam Accounts Reportedly Leaked: Change Your Password Now

89 million Steam Accounts Reportedly Leaked

The accounts of 89 million Steam users have reportedly been hacked. How this happened is still not clear.

But this is a good time to change your password and enable two-factor verification.

Last Sunday, cybersecurity firm, Underdark, posted about data breach on LinkedIn. The post was later picked up and widely circulated on X by gaming enthusiast Mellow_Online1.

This was according to reports by tech XDA.

According to the post, “a threat actor going by Machine1337 posted on a well-known dark web forum claiming to have breached Steam, offering a dataset of over 89 million user records for $5,000.”

This post from Machine1337 reportedly also included a Telegram contact, a link to sample data, and internal vendor data “indicating deeper access.”

It is believed that the breach came from a third-party service but not directly from Steam.

In the beginning, Mellow_Online1 thought it was from a vendor called Trillio.

But Steam’s parent company, Valve, confirmed to Mellow_Online1 that it does not use Trillio.

Details are still not clear at this point. This story will be updated with more specific details on how the breach happened.

Meanhile, all Steam users are advised to change their password and turn on two-factor verification.

Steam users should also check their emails for any suspicious activity and be extra careful about phishing scams which looks related to steam.
